Nocturnal A Novel Scott Sigler 9780307406347 Books

I have real all of Mr. Sigler's book and I love them but not as much as this one. This book is very well written and keeps your attention. It has lots of action, suspense, thrills and chills that will keep you turning the pages.

The story line is great and is very well written. The description of the "monsters" is vivid and easily visualized in your mind. The characters of Pookie and Brian are awesome and the dialog between them is humorous but does not take away from the story.
Did I mention lots of action and descriptive monsters? You wont' lack in those areas while reading.

Would like to see a follow up novel to Nocturnal as the story can be continued. I will definitely be recommending this book to others. This has got to be one of the best horror novels out there right now.

Nocturnal A Novel Scott Sigler 9780307406347 Books Reviews

I enjoyed this story. The writing kept me engaged, the concept was one that has NOT been done to death, and the author did not hesitate to kill and injure main characters. I see that as a MAJOR problem with many books, especially ones that are obviously set up as ongoing. When you know the "heroes" have to return, the story loses tension. The story had an exciting and ultimately, satisfying conclusion. Pookie Chang's "banter" was often an irritation, which is one reason the story got 4 stars instead of 5, and the exhaustive description of every piece of weaponry was another. Others may find the inclusion of the make, model, and fire power of every handgun necessary to visualize the battles, however I do not. I don't need to know that the lighter was a Zippo; the fact that it was a lighter, is enough. I also had a quibble with the fact that the method by which Bryan "triggered", was later in the story said to NOT be possible for an adult, but others may not have even noticed that discrepancy. All in all, a good, exciting read.
Edited to add I purchased this book from Random House, thru , during a $1.99 special. My first download was missing many pages, and after struggling to understand the story, I returned it. There was no difficulty with the return. What I had been able to read had intrigued me, so several hours later, I purchased the book again. This time, there were no errors. I have not seen anyone else mention problems with the quality of the download, so I thought I'd mention it.
For whatever reason, I put off reading this for about a year, mostly because I think I thought it was more of a crime novel, rather than Sigler's typical crazy horror novels. And for the first third of the book., that's what it seemed to be.

But man oh man, all of a sudden, everything changed and became the creepy, insane horror story that I expect from Scott. I think I even liked this more than Infected!

I didn't think the "chicken scissors" scene in Infected could ever be topped, but... I was even more creeped out when a very LARGE character was revealed! The twists and turns were incredible and this ended up being nothing like what I expected!

I really got into this at about halfway in, and blew off my weekend just to finish!

My only gripe was that I thought Pookie was a little over the top at times. His nickname for his partner, Bryan, was Bri-Bri. If I was Bryan, I would have thrown Pookie off a bridge every time he called me that!

Other than that, loved this! Well done, Scott!!
Damned fine read. Spoiler alert.

This one starts with Paul Maloney, a defrocked priest, seeking refuge at the church he used to serve. He was defrocked for child sex abuse. Of course his former Brothers won't let him stay so he heads out into the cold. This is when he dies.

His death will be handled by the San Francisco PD. Bryan Clauser and his partner Pookie Chang. Chang has just arrived to pick Clauser up. Clauser and Chang have been partners for six years.

Clauser is called Terminator because he couldn't care less if he has to kill. He never feels remorse nor does he care what anyone else thinks. Clauser has already been involved in five shootings and each has been declared a good shoot by IA.

Bryan and Pookie are normally night shift cops but because of a high profile murder they are working days. They are also surprised that Rich Verde gets the Maloney case and not them. They do, however, stop by to view the scene which is on top the building. Bryan catch's a whiff of something which is there then gone.

Once on the roof they fine the ME Mertz, who head the ME office at the scene. Its highly unusual to see Mertz at the scene of a death. He's pushing seventy and a legend in the world of Medical Examiners.

The victim is a broken up mess. Broken arms. Broken legs and blood all over the roof. There is also a blue police tarp taped down over part of the roof. The wind picks up part of it and Bryan sees some kind of drawing.

This is the first murder of its kind that Bryan and Pookie will see but it won't be the last.

So begins one damned fine read.

This one has Bryan, a Bryan who will have dreams of him killing for his brothers and sisters, Pookie, Robin Hudson who is Bryans former girlfriend, her dog Emma, Max a huge bouncer who lives next door to Robin, a Max who is gay, his pit bull Billy who's a real sweetie, Chief Zou who runs the SFPD, Mertz the head of the ME Department, Verde, his partner Pigeon, Bob Burns who is Pookie's former partner, Rex Deprovdechuk a teenage kid who's been bullied his whole life, a Rex who will find out he's the King, his mother Roberta who is less than a stellar parent, the monsters that inhabit the underground beneath the city, Aggie a man that has been kidnapped and Bryan Clauser and Pookie Chang doing their best to figure it all out, save who they can and stay alive.

Five Stars
